Key Points:
After visiting the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in July of this year, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The Supreme Court and IIT Madras are working together to create a variety of tools and platforms by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge technologies. Tools for transcribing, summarizing pages of transcripts, translation, an exclusive streaming service for court proceedings, process automation, and sizable language models designed specifically for the legal industry are among them.
This MoU’s main objective is to support the Indian judiciary’s digital transformation and connect it with a vision of a more effective and technologically sophisticated legal environment that improves access to justice.
The Supreme Court is aggressively attempting to make its procedures more automated, user-friendly, and citizen-centric with the goal of enhancing access to justice under the direction of CJI Chandrachud.
By developing an e-learning platform and providing ICT skill development courses, this collaboration will also focus on capacity building and training. This represents a significant advancement in integrating AI and technology to improve the effectiveness, accessibility, and capacity building of the legal domain.
