A large number of engineering students have called for the postponement of the initial session of the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Main, which is set to take place in January, as it is due to occur only two weeks before their board exams and may conflict with their practical tests.

The initial portion of the engineering entrance test has been appointed to run from January 24th to the 31st of 2023, excluding Republic Day. The Class 12 CBSE board tests are expected to be undertaken from February 15th, 2023, with practical examinations set to be held in January. The hashtag #postponeJEEMains is trending on social media, with students tagging the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA) to voice their demands.

Ritu, an aspiring JEE-Main exam taker, expressed that an innumerable amount of students have yearned to take engineering courses and become an engineer, and this has been deeply felt by their parents and mentors. However, due to the premature announcement of dates, these students are beginning to give up on their aspirations.

Sarfaraz, a social media user, recently posted a tweet expressing his opinion that not granting students a reasonable opportunity in JEE Mains would be an immense unfairness. Anubha Sahai, a lawyer and President of India Wide Parents Association, commented that the students are in extreme tension, and three young people had recently taken their lives in the coaching facility of Kota due to the stress.

Sahai recently remarked that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) schedule was recently announced and the exam will take place in May, so why can’t the same be done for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)? He advocated for uniformity among all entrance exams. Aditya Jha, an engineering aspirant, pointed out that the practical exams of the Assam, Bihar, and Telangana boards are set to begin at different dates in January, while the JEE Main is slated for 24-31 January. He questioned why the government could not see the clashing dates.
