The state government’s plea regarding the need to reevaluate the CET rankings was scheduled for hearing on September 19 before a Division Bench of the High Court of Karnataka on Thursday. On September 3, a court’s Single Judge Bench invalidated a Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) letter regarding students in the 2020–21 academic year.
The second-year PU marks of students from the 2020-21 cohort were not taken into account for CET rankings, according to a note that the KEA released on July 30 of this year. Only CET scores were taken into account. However, the 2021–22 candidates were rated using the standard 50:50 split of PU–II and entrance exam scores. The KEA had implemented this regulation since the PU-II grades of 2020–21 students were dependent on internal marks from colleges.
Many students from the 2020–21 class who are returning for the CET had contested this note. The disputed letter “is contrary to the standards of justifiable expectation and the same deserves to be annulled,” the High Court had stated in its ruling on September 3. The Division Bench of Justice S Vishwajith Shetty and Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe today ordered the authorities to abide by the office’s objections to their appeal and continued the case to the next week.
