The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given the Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences an A++ rating in recognition of its noteworthy contributions to educational, research, innovation and incubation, extension, and outreach activities. From August 10 to August 12, 2022, a 7-person NAAC peer team toured KITS laboratories, various departments, facilities, infrastructure, and research. The group then filed a report.
“The important parameters leading to the accreditation have been industry 4.0 compliant, curriculum, digital teaching and learning practices, state of the art infrastructure, transparent governance, funded projects worth Rs 25 crore, more than 100 patents with 14 granted, 6300 papers in Scopus and WoS indexed journals, a Section 8 company catering to incubation and entrepreneurship, adoption of villages for technology transfer, distinctive contribution to water science and technology and the best practice manifested by 25 technology missions in cutting edge areas,” said an official statement from KITS.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries-sponsored laboratory, the Nano-Mission-supported laboratory, the supersonic and subsonic wind tunnels of the Aerospace Engineering laboratory, the Media Center, the animal house and NMR laboratory for experimental studies, and the Water Institute laboratory equipped with AAS, ion chromatographs, and facilities for water treatment using electro-coagulation, electro-dialysis, and CDI techniques were all praised by the NAAC expert team based on the KITS. In order to prepare students for the workforce, the experts also praised KITS for its industry-partnered laboratories with SIEMENS, IBM, CISCO, NVIDIA, SUEZ, AMZ Automotive, and TESSOLVE.
The experts also asserted that the 25 Technology Missions of Karunya, which focus on industry 4.0, sustainable development, and emerging technologies, are generating papers, patents, and commercial goods that are helping to solve human problems. The NAAC team expressed their satisfaction with the UNBOX, a museum showing inventions and patents created by students and professors, and the Aqua Musea, which features models of water resource systems from semi-arid regions, particularly Tamil Nadu.
The vice chancellor and his entire team of faculty, staff, and students were recognised for their accomplishments by KITS chancellor Paul Dhinakaran and Trustee Samuel Dhinakaran.
