The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has initiated the CLAT counselling of 2023 on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Candidates who received an invitation from the consortium either via email/sms or on the CLAT 2023 portal are the ones eligible to sign up for the CLAT counselling process for admissions.

The CLAT 2023 entrance examination was held on December 18 in 127 testing locations nationwide. Following this, five rounds of counselling will be conducted to allocate places to applicants based on their positions in the CLAT merit list and the NLUs seat matrix.

CLAT 2023 counselling instructions

Individuals who have been invited must sign up for the CLAT 2023 counselling process by January 12th, 2023 at 6 pm. To take part in CLAT 2023 counselling, please adhere to the following instructions:

  • Login to CLAT account and validate the invitation for counselling during each round.
  • Click the ‘Make Payment’ button. Pay the counselling registration fee of Rs. 30,000 (general category candidates) or Rs. 20,000 (ST/ SC/ OBC/ BC/ EWS/ PWD categories).
  • The CLAT counselling registration fee can be made online and it is refundable.
  • Wait till a ‘Payment Successful’ message is displayed on screen before logging out.

What after CLAT counselling registration?

The applicants who have been accepted will be assigned a place at the NLU of their choice. The initial seating arrangement will be declared on January 18, 2023. Candidates will have the option to either confirm, move, or leave the CLAT counselling session.

Freeze option: If the applicant is happy with the seat they have been given, agrees to it, and does not wish to be considered for further seat allocation/ counselling, they can opt to keep that seat.

Float option: If the applicant is not allocated their first choice NLU and chooses to keep their options open of potentially securing a higher preference NLU seat, they may select the ‘float’ option.

Exit option: A candidate who no longer wishes to proceed with the admissions counselling process after registering can choose to leave.

The chosen applicant who has been designated a spot according to NLU preferences must submit a non-refundable confirmation fee of Rs. 20,000 prior to making a decision to either ‘freeze’ or ‘float’ before the due date.
