The three suspects who were detained in connection with the Chandigarh University video case were sent to police detention on Monday by a judge. The three suspects were presented by police to the Kharar court in Mohali, Punjab, and custody was requested for ten days. Since Saturday night, protests have erupted on the university campus in Punjab’s Mohali amid claims made by students that a hosteller has taken multiple offensive videos of female students in the common bathroom. Other pupils even alleged that the videos had been stolen. However, the university administration rejected these claims, calling them “false and unfounded.”
Sandeep Sharma, the accused’s attorney, told reporters outside of court that there were two recordings, one of the accused and the other of another female. Sharma responded that the case is under investigation when questioned about claims made against the female student that she recorded offensive footage of certain classmates.
The devices of all three suspected parties will be sent for forensic analysis, according to a police officer. The student who was accused of producing the films had already been detained by police, but they later claimed that she had shared a video of just herself with her 23-year-old “lover” who had been detained on Sunday in Himachal Pradesh. On Sunday night, a 31-year-old male was also detained in connection with this case from the hill state. The Punjab Police was subsequently given control of the pair. The three suspects, who are said to be buddies, had their phones taken by the police as well. A three-person, the all-female special investigation team was assembled by the Punjab Police on Monday to look into the situation.
