The High Court has been contacted by several students who completed the Pre-University Course (PUC) in 2020–21 but who will also be taking the Common Entrance Test (CET) in 2022. These students have disputed a purported notice from the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) that the 2020–21 grades would not be taken into account for admission to professional programmes in 2022.
The petition quotes a KEA note that states, “The marks of students who have graduated in 2021 will not be computed for the purpose of awarding ranking in the CET and only the marks achieved in the CET will be taken into consideration for the purpose of granting ranks.” On Monday, the plea was considered by SR Krishna Kumar’s single-judge panel. The High Court, which was hearing the case, was informed by the Additional Advocate General, Dhyan Chinnappa, that the process of counselling students for admission to professional programmes has not yet begun.
The matter was postponed until August 18 after the AAG informed the court that counselling wouldn’t start until the HC heard the petition. Keerthana Y. H. and a dozen other students filed the petition. “Due to the nature of the exams, qualifying examination results are typically greater while CET marks are typically lower. The merit matrix for each student would be completely disrupted by considering the CET scores alone for half of the proportion and ignoring the qualifying examination scores “says in the petition.
