Banaras Hindu University (BHU) called the price-hike accusations false and made it clear in a series of tweets that there isn’t a fee increase for students as reported on social media and other platforms. However, the new fee increase proposed will be put into effect for applicants this year.

There has been no new decision made by the institution about fee increases and housing costs. “The decision to partially increase some items was made prior to the 2019–20 academic year. The increase is being considered for applicants who will be admitted in 2022–2023. This will not have an impact on current students, it stated. Additionally, it stated that the university has not increased tuition for the academic years 2020–2021 and 2021–2022. Instead, BHU has repaid the difference in tuition for all the students who paid the higher rates, hoping to offer relief to the students afflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2022, it was decided to reimburse these pupils’ tuition payments.

BHU has urged all students and stakeholders to “avoid confusion and misinformation being circulated about the propaganda being done by certain groups in the name of fee hike in the university.” “Banaras Hindu University is launching fresh initiatives in this direction, building on the Mahamana concept for the welfare of students and their overall growth. This commitment of the University is shown in the programmes that have been introduced in recent months for the welfare and well-being of the students, it was said.
