According to an official document, invitations to important dignitaries for events at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here should only be given with the president of the institution’s consent. Mansukh Mandaviya, a union health minister, now serves as the AIIMS Institute Body’s (IB) president.

The responsible authorities have learned that prominent dignitaries are receiving invitations to events without the president of the AIIMS in New Delhi’s knowledge. According to the memo published on October 1, such invitations must only be provided with the president of the AIIMS’s consent through the director of the AIIMS, New Delhi.

All academic, research and examination department deans, centre directors, the medical superintendent, and department heads have received the order. According to a former director, Section 11(1) of the AIIMS Act, 1956 clearly states that the director of the institute is the chief executive officer and in charge of the administration.

“Accordingly, the director himself can resolve home concerns. To my knowledge, there has never before been a written directive approving the invitation of dignitaries. The president’s approval is obtained for gatherings or events where dignitaries like the prime minister, vice president, or president will be present “said he. “Additionally, the President, who also serves as the Union Minister for Health, is simply told when one of his cabinet members is invited by a department to attend a particular event. Aside from obtaining permission from the President’s office to host foreign conferences, “added he.
