The Union education ministry today informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that there are up to 4,297 seats open for reserved teaching positions in the Indian central educational institutions after conducting the recruitment process and announcing a list of candidates who were not found suitable. These seats are open for the reserved positions of professor, associate professor, and assistant professor. In central institutions all over India, there are about 988 open seats for the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community, 576 for the Scheduled Caste (SC), 1,761 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 628 for the Economically Weaker Session (EWS), and 344 for the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category. The education ministry disclosed the specifics of the positions for which the hiring procedure was carried out and said that none were determined to be fit.

MP AA Rahim raised inquiries about the open seats and the steps the ministry had taken to address this issue. The education ministry has instructed central higher educational institutions to fill the vacancies within a year beginning on September 5, 2021, according to further information provided to the Rajya Sabha. The government reports that 4,807 positions have been posted since August 2021. According to the statement, the selection process is still ongoing. Additionally, the education ministry reported that 375 positions have already been filled. In all central educational institutions in India, direct teacher recruitment is subject to reservation under the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Act, 2019. No reserved position may be de-reserved in accordance with the act.
