The well-known Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband and the other 305 madrassas in the Saharanpur region, according to a government survey, are not recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Madarsa Education Board. Government programs like teacher salaries and scholarships, among others, are not available to madrassas that have not received the Board’s approval. According to Bharat Lal Gaur, the district’s minority welfare officer, who spoke to PTI on Saturday, there are 754 registered madrassas in Saharanpur. The administration has been informed of the 306 unrecognized madrasas in the area as part of a survey being conducted on madrasas in the state, he continued. He asserted that Darul Uloom Deobad is not recognized by the Madrassa Board.
According to Gaur, the government set 12 points as the foundation for the survey of madrasas. The institution has never accepted any type of aid or grant from any government, according to a statement from the vice-chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband, Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani. Despite not being registered with the Board, the seminary, according to him, carries out educational work in accordance with the Indian Constitution. According to Nomani, the Darul Uloom’s “Shura Society” is registered under the Societies Act and the seminary functions in accordance with the Constitution’s guarantee of religious freedom.
Darul Uloom Deoband has been doing educational work and serving the country for more than 150 years, but it has never taken any kind of aid or grant from any government, he said. The Islamic institute in Deobad in Saharanpur was established on September 30, 1866.
