One lakh individuals in Rajasthan’s urban areas now have jobs thanks to the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme, an official reported on Thursday. Urban poor people are pretty enthusiastic about this program, and the official said that there are more and more recipients each year. The programme has produced job cards for 3,83,639 individuals for more than 2.45 lakh families. 1,398,798 people from 96,452 families have applied for jobs thus far. According to the Secretary of the Local Self-Government Department, Jogaram, over one lakh individuals have received employment in the last six days.

He continued by saying that employment was being offered immediately in accordance with demand. The state government works hard to ensure that everyone has access to jobs, he continued. On September 9, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot unveiled a programme designed after the MGNREGA that will give families living in metropolitan areas 100 days of employment. During the state budget, Gehlot made the plan public. According to the plan, the government will give needy families in metropolitan regions 100 days of employment every year. Those between the ages of 18 and 60 are eligible for the programme. The state government has allotted Rs 800 crore for the first year, and Gehlot assured there will be sufficient funding.

The MGNREGA was launched by the UPA government at the Center for employment in rural areas, according to the chief minister, and it had a successful consequence. According to a scheme official, the wage for an unskilled worker has been set at Rs 259 per day, while the wage for a skilled worker is Rs 283. Within the allotted time, wages will be paid to employees directly into their bank accounts. According to Jogaram, Rajasthan was the first state to introduce a programme similar to MGNREGA that would guarantee employment in metropolitan areas. In accordance with the plan, initiatives will be carried out to safeguard the environment, conserve water, preserve cultural heritage, maintain gardens, remove the encroachment, illegal sign boards, hoardings, and banners, and improve sanitation.
